How to pick décor for an Indian destination wedding

Hello dear friends! We are so happy to be back with you. And this time, we want to talk about one of our personal favorite subjects: DECOR!!!!!!

Indian destination weddings are a fantastic choice for couples who do not fancy traditional, cookie-cutter weddings. Weddings in tropical and exotic destinations allow you to start your marriage in the most romantic and unique way imaginable.

Nevertheless, planning an Indian destination wedding presents a distinctive set of challenges and one of them is decorating your different venues to create a look that tells your own story. Your wedding should be all about you. It should be able to reflect who you are as a couple and what you love most about your culture and traditions without having to sacrifice a look that blows your mind!

We don’t believe in settling for what’s already there - we want to help you embark on a journey to find exactly what it is that will match your vision! Here are some things to think about when starting to work on your wedding decor:

1.- Pinterest: Meet your new bestie!

The process starts with brainstorming. Going on Pinterest (as cliché as it sounds….. we know!!!!!) will allow you to navigate through options and styles you weren’t even aware of! This is about finding different ideas you like. Are you more into a romantic set up? Maybe a boho Moroccan Sangeet party? Mexican Fiesta for Mehndi? Gatsby themed Reception? It’s all there! All you have to do is keep looking.

Find different setups you might be into. Check out the pictures in detail and be very clear about the things you like from each picture. Remember: THIS IS YOUR STORY. We are not about copy + paste. No way!!!! We want your wedding to be all about you and your decorator should be able to help you bring all of these ideas together and create something that screams YOU!!!!

2.- Shaadi Destinations Instagram.

And we promise this is not an AD lol. See what other couples have done. If you’re planning to get married on the beach you may want to see things that have been done there. In our profile, you will be able to find different highlights from each Resort we’ve worked with. Being able to see the venues and different setups at each location will come in handy when you start to think about layouts and different ways to bring your vision together.

3.- The more ideas, the merrier!

Once you start working with the resort’s planner and decorator, ask them for pictures of previous Indian destination weddings they’ve done and see the things they’re capable of putting together.

Once you’ve found the style you’re aiming for, ask your decor vendor to come up with a proposal that includes different ideas for each item. Play around with it. Do a little mix and match. Make sure you’re always making informed decisions. Compare the different options they send over. See what makes the most sense to you. And keep in mind that every decision you make should bring back value to you. Remember you’re working with a team of people who have plenty of experience doing decor at the particular venues you chose! Listen to their ideas and create something spectacular as a team!

4.- Align on themes for each event (and don’t be afraid to do something different)

Now that you’ve seen it all, it’s time for you to get down to it! Start working on finalizing your color schemes and wedding theme. All decorations must be in a beautiful synchronicity. Don’t be afraid to switch things around and go for colors that are “non-traditional.” There’s always a way to find middle ground between tradition and keeping things fresh and new.

Focus on aligning the level of décor as well. You’ve already chosen beautiful scenery for your wedding event. Now it’s about enhancing the beauty that’s already there! Think of wedding events backwards. Reception - Ceremony - Mehndi / Sangeet - Pre Ceremonies. This will also allow you to align your budget correctly and make sure you’re investing in the events where you’ll spend the most time.

5.- Finalize decor proposal and SIGN YOUR FINAL CONTRACT!

Now that the crazy journey of creating the perfect décor for your Indian destination wedding is complete (and this means you’ve selected all minor details such as napkins, name cards, table numbers, tablecloths, chairs and moreeeee), it’s time to lock it all down and make it official.

Work on your layouts to make sure you’ve found the perfect spot for everything! Make sure you go through it all once more with your wedding planner (we don’t want you forgetting anything!) and make sure everything’s good to go.

You don’t need to be the most creative person. You just need to find the things that speak the most to you and don’t be afraid to ask for help. We can’t wait to see what your dream wedding looks like - I’m sure we’ll love it the same way we love you!!!!!!!
